About the Event

The Green Lake Sanitary District will be leading volunteers on a late morning (to avoid morning dew/frost) prairie flower and grass seed collection event at Dawson Prairie in the Green Lake Conference Center. We will be collecting seed from a variety of native plants such as purple coneflower, blazing star, compass plant, milkweed, asters, little bluestem, Indian grass, and prairie dropseed.

Seed collection is a popular event among gardeners as participants will be discussing prairie plants and their function in the ecosystem (habitat, erosion control, etc.) and such things as native plant use in garden settings. The seed collected will be dried and used at sites such as Winnebago Trail and Sunnyside as we further work to restore lands once overrun by buckthorn. The event is open to all ages; children are welcome. We will provide paper bags for the seed and refreshments will be provided.

NOTE: This event is weather dependent. Please check back for the latest updates.

LOCATION/PARKING: Participants will start collecting sees on the north side of Dawson Prairie on Log Cabin Road. Parking will be alongside of the road in the grass.
